April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

In 2017, child deaths decreased from 222 to 172 statewide while deaths in Bexar County decreased from 11 to 8 compared to 2016. While down year over year, there were still 5,588 confirmed abuse and neglect cases last year.

"Though child abuse statistics indicate a slight move in the right direction, they are still unacceptable because child abuse is preventable, and a child dying due to circumstances we can control is deplorable. Together, we must raise awareness that resources are available. Bringing a parent struggling with young children together with community advocates may make a difference and save lives." said Senator Carlos Uresti
