Austin, TX—Committee assignments for the 85th Legislative Session are official and Senator Carlos Uresti will maintain his appointment to the powerful Senate Finance Committee, and receive a promotion to Vice-Chair on the Health and Human Services Committee. In tune with the needs of Senate District 19, Sen. Uresti will serve on the Education, and Veteran Affairs & Border Security Committees.
“Our reforms to Foster Care and Child Protective Services may be the most important items we tackle this session, and remaining on the Health and Human Services Committee as Vice-Chair will provide consistency to my efforts, along with a fresh perspective from my new colleagues on the committee. As a member of the committee I will also continue to pursue my legislation to raise Texas smoking age to 21.” said Senator Carlos Uresti.
Sen. Uresti will serve on the Veteran Affairs & Border Security Committee. The heart of Senate District 19 is San Antonio, known as Military City USA, and the district is home to Randolph, Lackland, and Laughlin Air Force Bases. Also located in SD 19 are Brooks City Base and Port San Antonio, former military installations undergoing redevelopment following Federal Base Realignment.
“As a Marine, and the father of a Marine, I look forward to continuing my service as a member of the committee which oversees issues important to our Veterans and active duty military. I know my fellow members of VFW Post 9186 will appreciate this appointment.” said Uresti.
The 140-day legislative session began Tuesday, January 10th and ends Monday, May 29th.
