Saturday, April 8th, Senator Uresti attended the Poteet Strawberry Festival. This year's event was the 70th anniversary of the weekend-long celebration. With carnival rides, performers, and delicious foods, the festival exceeded all expectations. Despite the strawberry shortages of recent years, the event was a profound success with 35 food vendors and 90 booths for arts and crafts.

The Strawberry Capital of Texas offered strawberry covered brownies, strawberry cheesecake, strawberry ice cream, and of course chocolate covered strawberries. While the town of Poteet has only about 3,000 citizens, the renowned Strawberry Festival played host to around 10,000 guests throughout the weekend. This is a substantial marker for the festival's 70th anniversary, which was first established in 1948 by the Poteet Rotary Club to incentivize World War II Veterans to farm in the area.

Continuing his rounds, Senator Uresti attended the United Way Kids Festival at Lockwood Park on Saturday, April 29th. The festival is a community event for families throughout the San Antonio and Bexar County communities. With 65+ booths by non-profits, school districts, and city services, children of all ages were provided with information, activities, and entertainment.

One of San Antonio's many Fiesta events, United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County organizes the Kids Festival for families free of charge. In partnering with various agencies and programs, United Way seeks to reach out to individuals, children, and families and encourage them to LIVE UNITED. Each partnering agency and program shares the goal of improving and saving lives.

In celebration and promotion of early childhood development, the United Way Kids Festival hosted several thousand members of the San Antonio community. Sponsored by the Texas Cavaliers, an organization of 500 civic and community leaders, the event was a remarkable success. Committed to bettering lives throughout the San Antonio community, the Texas Cavaliers have added the United Way Kids Festival to their list of official Fiesta events.
